Ms. Meredith is an organized and systematic employee due to the nature of her work in the Front Office. She is the doer type who gives great importance to details and will closely monitor its’ accuracy. She prefers to focus on one task and see it through completion before starting on a new activity. She appears to be contented with her current position and responsibilities. She takes pride in being the longest employed female in one of Jakarta’s pioneer hotels.

Ms. Meredith exercises a participative syle of leadership. She values her subordinates’ inputs and takes them to consideration. When disciplining a staff, she reasons with them first and prefers to settle matters without needing to refer to hotel procedures. However, there has been quite a number of times wherein she had to discipline her subordinates and had to follow the hotel’s procedure regarding such matter especially when it pertains to disciplinary actions. Motivation at Work

Mr. Dick regards his job and position as something very important. He is currently happy and contented in his current role as Assistant C&C Administration Manager. He is focused in handling his tasks and is willing to serve his customers at his best by using his interpersonal skills.

When asked about his daily activities, he claims that most of his time is spent to meet customers. He informs them about technical specifications, i.e. hotel facilities, size of stage, tables, and other equipment and gives necessary suggestions based on their needs. He enjoys meeting customers and feels a sense of appreciation when people say “thank you” to him for the service he had provided. Continue reading

Dining Room Manager in A Hotel Company

Ms. Noor sees her work as something enjoyable, like her hobby. In reality, she enjoys cooking and creating new recipes and menu as well as combining different ingredients to make tasty meals for customers. In her current role as Dining Room Manager, she is happy that the employees, who are mostly lower staff, can enjoy tasty foods, so that they always get motivated at work.

Her need to achieve seems to be in the lower side at present showing that she currently feels uncertain about her career goal. She admits that she feels unhappy and a bit disappointed with her new position in the dining room. Mr. Kerry appears to enjoy his job and takes pride in being one of the three Duty Managers of the hotel. He is extremely organized and systematic and puts great emphasis on good grooming and a presentable appearance. He prefers to concentrate in finishing a task before venturing into a new activity. He is able to see the bigger picture in things, but is not keen with details or with work that has much to do with details. According to him, he finds reservations accepting change, especially if he is comfortable with his present status. Performance vs. Competency

Mr. Jamesto projects the image of a hard worker who has relatively high need to achieve. He also tends to focus on finishing a particular task before moving into another task. He does not have any intention to assume leadership role nor any strong need to control others. Indeed, at present he does not have direct subordinate; therefore he is not required to display this skill.

As a sales executive in travel agency segment, Mr. Jamesto mainly deals with key people from travel companies, and not directly with end customers. A part of his duties is to reactivate old sleeping account, aside from identifying new ones. So far he claims to have generated new accounts such as Indosaudi and Parinama Tour. However, he has never been able to achieve revenue target accredited to his name. In a bit defensive manner, he explained that revenue target in SUN Hotel is just for formalities thus he did not view it as a motivator to exert more efforts and improve his performance. Career in Hotel Business

Mr. Jones began his career in the hotel business as a Buss Boy when he joined Hotel Sun Jaya in 1983. He advanced in his career steadily and was promoted as Waiter in 1986, Captain Waiter in 1989, Assistant Headwaiter in 1994, and finally as Headwaiter in 1999. He takes pride in reaching his current level because he believes that it was purely his hard work that got him to where he is now.

According to him he was acknowledged for his performance in 1998 and was named “Supervisor of the Year.” His responsibilities include checking and monitoring Sukohardjo staff particularly the good grooming of waiters, checking of raw materials in the kitchen, controlling the operations of the outlet and conducting daily morning and evening briefing.
