Performance vs. Competency

Mr. Jamesto projects the image of a hard worker who has relatively high need to achieve. He also tends to focus on finishing a particular task before moving into another task. He does not have any intention to assume leadership role nor any strong need to control others. Indeed, at present he does not have direct subordinate; therefore he is not required to display this skill.

As a sales executive in travel agency segment, Mr. Jamesto mainly deals with key people from travel companies, and not directly with end customers. A part of his duties is to reactivate old sleeping account, aside from identifying new ones. So far he claims to have generated new accounts such as Indosaudi and Parinama Tour. However, he has never been able to achieve revenue target accredited to his name. In a bit defensive manner, he explained that revenue target in SUN Hotel is just for formalities thus he did not view it as a motivator to exert more efforts and improve his performance. Career in Hotel Business

Mr. Jones began his career in the hotel business as a Buss Boy when he joined Hotel Sun Jaya in 1983. He advanced in his career steadily and was promoted as Waiter in 1986, Captain Waiter in 1989, Assistant Headwaiter in 1994, and finally as Headwaiter in 1999. He takes pride in reaching his current level because he believes that it was purely his hard work that got him to where he is now.

According to him he was acknowledged for his performance in 1998 and was named “Supervisor of the Year.” His responsibilities include checking and monitoring Sukohardjo staff particularly the good grooming of waiters, checking of raw materials in the kitchen, controlling the operations of the outlet and conducting daily morning and evening briefing. Mr. Bernanke’s work profile indicates that he is a versatile worker. He has worked in several departments from food and beverage, front office, cashiering, accounting, purchasing and now, in sales as one of six Sales Executives. Despite his limited educational attainment, he learned on the job and worked his way up. For this, he values hard work and exerts effort when performing his tasks projecting the hardworker image. Although only two years in sales and marketing department, Mr. Bernanke has displayed hard work by being persistent in his follow-up on clients which contributed to an increase in RNO for the last two months. Ms. Wanty project herself as a person who aspires to consistently achieve the best among her peers. Ambitious with an inner drive to achieve, she is able to do multi tasks at a time in order to reach her goal. Indeed, during her tenure in Sun Hotel since 1999 as Sales Executive, she has consistently been able to display above average achievements.

Over the last two years, she was able to increase Room Night Occupancy (RNO) from 73/month to 500/month in the corporate accounts segment, her current portfolio. She was also able to increase RNO in her other segment, embassy segment, from 43/month to 100/month. In another instance, with her peer from front office, she also played an instrumental role in getting a large group (200 persons) to stay for more than 3 months in Sun Hotel. She regards work as a hobby and claims that she never feels stressed in handling her tasks and daily work problems.
